Critical two-stage RobecoSAM / DJSI CSA Support & Strategies

  • Stage 1: Benchmark Analysis & Strategic Response Plan

    - Occurs Annually in Fall, After Published CSA Results in September in order to provide time for implementing recommendations before CSA opens in Spring.

    • Benchmarking Analysis: In-depth analysis of your previous CSA scores and benchmarking materials. Identifies “Strategic Focus Areas” for your company (Stage 1)
    • Strategic Response Plan: Includes G&A’s analysis of your company’s response to the CSA questions with recommendations; leading peer research & examples; and relevant company materials to improve next year’s CSA response. This results in the compilation of SME Intelligence Packets (Stage 1)
  • Stage 2: CSA Response Support & Coordination

    - Occurs Annually in Spring; When the RobecoSAM (S&P Global) CSA Opens

    • CSA Response Support: Helps the client company improve their CSA Response utilizing intelligence and details unearthed in Stage 1 to help improve this year’s response effort (Stage 2)
    • SME Support: Provide guidance and support to internal SMEs; and coordinating the response input for RobecoSAM’s CSA on-line tool (Stage 2)

G&A’s approach for improving the SAM CSA (now part of S&P Global) scoring and response effort for our corporate clients is offered through a tried and true two-stage process, with activities in the spring and fall months.

STAGE 1: Benchmark Analysis & Strategic Response Plan
- Occurs Annually in Fall, After Published CSA Results in September in order to provide time for implementing recommendations before CSA opens in Spring

  • Benchmark Analysis: The first stage of G&A’s CSA support process consists of a deep dive analysis of your company’s previous CSA scores and the supplied RobecoSAM benchmarking materials. G&A identifies strategic focus areas through related internal systems.
  • Strategic Response Plan: The results of this engagement are presented in a strategic response plan that empowers and prepares the company to strategically plan and assign the appropriate internal subject matter experts (SMEs) to lead in the effort to the maximum increase of the score on important aspects of the survey for the next year. The strategic response plan includes:
    1. Leading Peer Research & Examples
    2. Subject Matter Experts (SME) Intelligence Packets

STAGE 2: CSA Response Support & Coordination
- Occurs Annually in Spring; When the RobecoSAM (S&P Global) CSA Opens

  • The second stage of G&A’s support process assists the client in the submission of the response to the DJSI CSA. This stage of support begins in the beginning of the year – and increases in tempo as soon as RobecoSAM releases the updated methodology, questions, weightings, and scoring documents for the CSA.
  • Through its proven experience, project and knowledge management systems G&A Institute uses the strategic focus information from Stage 1 to help improve this year’s response effort. This includes providing guidance to internal SMEs and coordinating the response into RobecoSAM’s CSA on-line tool.


RobecoSAM CSA & The DJSI Background

RobecoSAM Group's "Corporate Sustainability Assessment" (the CSA) – what will be identified as “S&P Global” going forward) lands on the desks of invited companies to be considered for assessment every spring. Annual DJSI/CSA results are announced every September.

Positive results could place the company in the RobecoSAM Yearbook, and/or in one or more of the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes (DJSI), and to be considered for the newly-launched S&P ESG indices which rely on CSA data results. This is a prized achievement for C-suites and company board rooms. A growing number of institutional investors and their asset managers use the DJSI and S&P ESG indices as benchmarks for their ESG investing analysis and decision-making.
